My job at the lab took me north to Iqaluit during summers. The tundra is mesmerizing, and especially in autumn, which starts in August, there is a kaleidoscope of vibrant colour right at your feet. The tundra is changing now along with the global climate; in fact the north experiences these changes to a greater degree than the more southern areas of Canada. The Inuit elders say that the taste of the caribou meat has changed, because of course what the caribou eat is changing. I like to think of these paintings as archival.
